How to choose a wedding photographer By: Jonathan Bille |
| |
When it comes to choosing a photographer for your wedding, you want to make sure you get the best person, who will do the best job preserving the most special day in your life, but how do you know which photographer to choose? I recently had the chance to speak to Li and Brad Beardslee of LaLe Designs, Inc. and they gave me some advice and a list of must ask questions that couples looking for a photographer should ask of the photographers they are thinking about hiring to document their big day.
First and foremost: Couples should consider the personality of the photographer, as Li poignantly said, “You’re going to have to spend all day with this person so you want to make sure that you get along. You don’t want to feel uncomfortable around your photographer. You want to make sure they are going to work with you, not just for you.”
Compare quality to price. Look at a lot of photographers portfolios and decide if the quality of the photographs are in line with the price the photographer is charging.
Get a contract with the photographer.
Questions to ask:
• What kind of equipment do they have?
• Can they deal with changes in lighting?
• What happens to the photograph negatives? Do they release them? If so, how long will it be before they release the negatives?
• How many photographs will you be getting? Do they guarantee a certain number of photographs?
• Who is actually going to show up at the wedding? Is it the photographer who you are talking to or is it going to be an assistant?
• What happens if the photographer can’t keep the date? (For whatever reason) Who will be coming in the absence? What is plan B? Is there a plan B? What are the backup options?
• In the event of equipment failure, do they have backup equipment? What is the quality of that equipment?
• What specifically is the camera(s) they use? Do they have more than one camera?
• Some services don’t allow cameras with a flash, do they have a good enough camera to operate without a flash in dark areas? Can it capture action shots like of someone running?
When it comes to choosing a photographer for your wedding you don’t want to make the wrong choice. So before you decide on one photographer over another make sure you ask the questions and do your homework.
