XM Radio Changes Everything!

XM Logo 120x90When XM radio first came on the scene I wondered, who would ever pay for radio service? Well the answer surprised even me. It turns out that I’m one of those willing to pay for radio service. Why? because it really is great having all those commercial free music channels and the great selection of news and talk stations.

Radio is very different from television. Radio is very personal. With radio, there is a connection that is established with the listener. It’s almost telepathic. This is particularly true when it comes to talk radio. Listening to a good talk show host or a good news outlet isn’t like watching a good TV show. TV is passive, you don’t participate, you just watch as it happens. Radio is different. Radio is active and causes the listener to really think about what it is they are hearing. And XM has some of the best radio talk shows available today.

And then there is the music.

There is no comparing traditional radio with XM radio. Traditional radio is one big commercial which has an occasion song stuck in there. XM is all commercial free and there is no censorship or station politics that get in the way of hearing great songs. And because they are free to play whatever they want, they play music that would never get a chance to be played on traditional radio.

If price is the issue, it doesn’t take much to justify the costs. I have the XM Everything package which costs $12.95 a month and comes with over 170 channels which includes sports, news and of course music. The cost breaks down to about 40 cents a day. Considering that I listen all the time, it works out to be quite a bargain.

But because cost is an issue, especially at a time when money is tight, I was able to take on the cost by canceling one of the movie packages I was getting with my cable TV. And now several months later, I am considering canceling cable altogether. I get the same CNN and Fox News that is on the cable, which is one of the justifications for having cable, and XM is so much more entertaining I find myself questioning whether cable is even worth it anymore. Besides, cable TV is one big commercial anyway, why pay for that?

If you have been thinking about getting XM Radio I can’t recommend it enough. Its way better than you think it is. It will change the way you think about radio, and how you get your news and entertainment.
