Fashion
Fashion Rocks

The fifth annual Fashion Rocks was a night honoring the unshakeable bond between music and fashion. Radio City Music Hall became a stage for glamorous models and gorgeous rock stars. Comedian Dennis Leary, who wore a dress at one point, hosted the star-studded gala that benefited Stand Up To Cancer.

Rihanna, dressed like a Vegas showgirl, opened the show with a cover of Madonna’s 1900 hit Vogue. The song was perfect to start the show with because Madonna is known as much for her fashion as she is her music. As she was singing, models strutted down the catwalk in gorgeous dresses, luxurious fabrics, and fierce heels.

Beyonce performed a tribute at Etta James, legendary blues and jazz singer. She covered her hit song At Last, which has been featured in countless movies and wedding receptions. Beyonce shinned in her form fitting gold dress, looking like a modern Marilyn Monroe.

Vera Wang, legendary wedding gown designer, showed off a few punk looks, some of which looked kind of space age. To continue with this theme, Fergie performed the Blondie mega hit Call Me. Her backup dancers looked more punk, with plaid and chains, than the plain black designs that Vera Wang had come up with.

Keith Urban performed his song You Look Good In My Shirt, which was very appropriate for the event. He looked very suave and put together in black pants and button up shirt. His performance was as amazing and rockin’ as the way he looked.

There was an ode to the 50th anniversary of Motown Records. The fashion looked like something out of Dreamgirls and The Jackson Five. The highlight of this was the cover of Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing by Justin Timberlake and Beyonce. They sounded great and worked well together on the stage.

The only really rocker, besides Keith Urban, was Kid Rock. He performed his monster summer hit All Summer Long and The Tempations hit with Mary J. Blige. Kid Rock was dressed in his trademark southern rock style. The performance was kicked up a notch when Lynyrd Skynyrd joined him on stage to sing Sweet Home Alabama.

Tyra Banks introduced what I will call the Timberland, the hip hop producer, part of the show. There were performances by One Republic, Chris Cornell, and The Pussycat Dolls. Their performances were overshadowed by the almost epileptic seizure induce focus on Timberland.

The little fashion that was showcased was very cutting edge and modern. All of the models walking down the runway looked like they jumped off the pages of Vogue. Almost all of the pieces were eye catching and had a lot of visual interest. The designs were very fashion forward and stylish. If I had the money, I would go out and buy them.

The night ended with the song Just Stand Up. All the famous women of the night joined on stage to sing this powerful ballad. The song was almost the new We Are The World by Michael Jackson.
