Bad Religion's Bentley Points To Bad Format Choices
There are plenty of reasons for a decline in the music industry, but Bad Religion's Jay Bentley is hitting on one that is not widely talked about. The bassist tells Thepunksite.com that the ever-changing format in which music is released can also be factored into the equation. He explains, quote, "I had vinyl, I had CD, I had mini-disc, I had DATs, I had all this...They make me buy all this stuff and I'm paying 350-dollars every time a new player comes out because now I can't [play] my music on anything but this." The bassist says he feels that over time people just got tired of getting the shaft in terms of music players. Bentley feels that the artist is most hurt by this and adds that over time a debate develops within the buyer about whether or not they are supporting the bands and labels they like by continuing to purchase their music, or if the money is going elsewhere. As a result, it may become harder for bands to tour and he says there has to be an incentive both ways for a fan to want the band to come to them and the band to be to afford coming to the fans. |
