IBMA Conference Features Bill Monroe Documentary show
Bluegrass visiting Nashville as part of this week's "International Bluegrass Music Association" Conference are in for a special treat. The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is screening the documentary "Bill Monroe: Father of Bluegrass." The documentary was taped in 1990 and 1991, so it shows the creator of the high lonesome sound in his later years. The film also features interviews with fellow Bluegrass icon and Monroe disciple Ricky Skaggs and late Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia. In 1945, Monroe assembled a band that featured Howard Watts, Chubby Wise, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. The music genre they're credited with developing was named for the band. They were known as Monroe's Blue Grass Boys Band. The afternoon screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Skaggs, Nager, Del McCoury and Douglas "Ranger Doug" Green.
