Britney Supports Music In New York Middle School
Britney Spears is doing her part to support music in schools. "People" magazine reports the pop princess surprised students at New York's John Philip Sousa Middle School Wednesday with a ten thousand dollar check for their year-old music program. While the school was not in session due to the Jewish holiday, Britney hung around to hear a performance from the school's eight piece band, the Sousatones. The kids had been told in advance that a high-profile guest was coming to hear them play but didn't know it would be Britney until the morning. The pop star jokingly told the kids after their performance that, when she kicks off her 2009 tour, they will be the first she'll call for an opening act.
The donation came from Elizabeth Arden, which is the umbrella company to Britney's own perfume fragrance line. The singer added that she feels privileged to have Elizabeth Arden make such a large donation for the school music studio in her name. |
