Cream, Hendrix Drummers To Be Honored
Cream's Ginger Baker and the Jimi Hendrix Experience's Mitch Mitchell are among those slated to be honored at a UK drumming event. The cymball maker Zildjian has tapped Baker to receive the Drummers Achievement Award at the ceremony, while Mitchell will also be recognized. Former Foreigner drummer Jason Bonham is expected to participate in the event, along with ex-Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord, The Killers' Ronnie Vannucci, and others. Baker's former Cream band mates Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce have also said they'll be on hand for the ceremony. Over the summer Bruce told Billboard.com it was possible the event could turn into a Cream reunion, but was cautious not to, quote, "overstate it and make it into something it isn't." But he added that even if they don't take the stage together, a, quote, "chat" about reteaming in the future would be likely. The ceremony is set for London's Royal Albert Hall tonight. |
