Radiohead, The Verve Ready To Fight
Several UK acts are ready to fight for their right to record as they please. Radiohead, The Verve, Kaiser Chiefs, Klaxons, Kate Nash, and Robbie Williams are among the name performers who have joined The Featured Artists Coalition. The organization is seeking to allow acts to maintain the copyright to their music, which they can then lease to record labels. The group is also requesting that the members be consulted on how their music is used, the ways in which it is sold, who gets the money, and equalizing the rights of performers with those of the songwriters. Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien tells BBC News, quote, "For us, this is a no-brainer of an issue. We believe that all artists and musicians should be signing up to this too."
