The Faces To Test Reunion Next Week
A Faces reunion appears to be closer to reality. Frontman Rod Stewart tells RayGigs.com that he'll be getting together with guitarist Ron Wood, keyboardist Ian McLagan, and drummer Kenney Jones on Monday to dust off the cobwebs from their old songs and see if it's something they want to pursue. The singer's touring bassist is expected to join them to round out the band for the rehearsal. Stories of a possible reteaming of the noted classic rockers have been cropping up for the past several months, with both Wood and McLagan saying they were eager to revive the group. Stewart had always been the holdout.
The Faces began in 1969, evolving from The Small Faces. The band split up six years later, with Stewart pursuing a full-time solo career and Wood quickly moving on to the Stones. Jones spent nearly a decade in The Who, replacing Keith Moon after his death in 1978. McLagan worked with British singer-songwriter Billy Bragg and became active on the local Austin, Texas music scene. The late bassist Ronnie Lane left The Faces in 1973. He was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the late '70s, and died in 1997. His replacement, Tetsu Yamauchi, turned to session work after The Faces split. |
