Ronnie Hawkins Being Honored In Arkansas
Veteran rocker Ronnie Hawkins is being honored by his home state. He's among the new inductees into the Arkansas Entertainers Hall of Fame. The singer is joining the late blues great Sonny Boy Williamson, country artists Joe Nichols and Wilburn Brothers, trumpeter Wayne Jackson, actress Tess Harper, and TV executive Ed Wilson as a member of the Hall's Class of 2008. The Arkansas Entertainers Hall of Fame Class of 2008 induction ceremony, including a reception for honorees, will take place in Hot Springs, Arkansas, Saturday night. Hawkins, who is originally from Arkansas, first made a name for himself in Canada in the 1950s and '60s. His backing band during that time was The Hawks, which eventually evolved into The Band. Hawkins has received similar honors in Canada. He was inducted into the Canadian Walk of Fame in Toronto in 2002.
