Paul Simon Sues Clock Company
Rhymin' Simon's lawsuit against the Rhythm Watch Company is now a thing of the past. "The New York Post" reports that Paul Simon and the Japanese clockmaker have reached a settlement in their dispute, over the company's alleged unauthorized use of the Simon-penned Simon & Garfunkel hit "Bridge Over Troubled Water." Rhythm's "Grand Nostalgia Clock" plays a chimed version of one of six tunes, including the duo's 1970 hit, at the top of each hour. Rhythm was accused of bypassing the licensing fee, which is over one-million-dollars. In his suit, which was filed in July, Simon also claimed the company had made more than five-million-dollars in profits from sales of timepieces that incorporate his song. He was seeking ten-million-dollars in damages. Details of the settlement haven't been revealed. |
