Nine Inch Nails Honored In NY
The members of Nine Inch Nails are receiving praise from New York politicians for their recent work in raising funds for fan Eric De La Cruz's heart transplant. RollingStone.com reports that during a meet-and-greet in Wantagh, New York earlier this month, fan Mike Caplice surprised vocalist Trent Reznor with thank you letters penned by New York Senator Charles Schumer and Governor David Patterson. Senator Craig M. Johnson, State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, and Congressmen Tim Bishop and Gary Ackerman also signed letters honoring Reznor's efforts in raising funds for the cause. Eric De La Cruz is an uninsured American in need of a heart transplant. He is also the younger brother of former CNN anchor Veronica De La Cruz who spearheaded an Internet campaign in a bid to cut through healthcare red tape in the effort to save her brother. Thanks to fundraising efforts, Veronica recently said that Eric is finally beginning to receive the care he needs. Caplice videotaped the presentation and posted it on YouTube. Caplice states, quote, "I wanted the entire NIN community to see that their efforts have been recognized by all levels of government. I'm an 18-year fan of the band who has two parents with cancer, and have seen how flawed the U.S. health care system is. I thought this was a really special moment for all of us who have seen the band and the community evolve over the years into a really positive and powerful force."
